Secure doors and windows

Before you leave, check all doors and windows to ensure they are locked and secure.  This is the first line of defense against intruders, and it is crucial to take the time to check that everything is secure.

This may seem like an obvious thing to do, but all too often a bathroom window may be left open and could be an invitation to an unwanted guest.

Install a security system

Investing in a security system is a smart move for any homeowner. Before you leave, make sure your system is installed, activated, and functioning correctly. This will provide you with peace of mind while you’re away, knowing that your home is being monitored and protected.

There is a suite of cost-effective packages available in the design showroom to suit different budgets and lifestyles, including pet friendly systems for a furry family members. Speak to a Henley electrical design consultant to learn more about the available systems.

Hold your mail

A mailbox full of letters and parcels is a clear sign that no one is home. Contact your post office to hold or divert your mail while you’re away to avoid this obvious indicator of an empty home. You can also ask a trusted neighbour or friend to pick up any packages or mail that arrive while you’re away.

And the other things…

Other things you should do before you leave home include unplugging appliances, adjusting the thermostat, arranging for lawn care, considering a house sitter and turning off the water supply.

While you are on a well-earned holiday, it is peace of mind that you know that you have secured your home, so you don’t have any unwanted surprises upon your return.
