The laundry sink doesn’t always get the spotlight – but it should. From soaking school uniforms and handwashing delicates to rinsing muddy sneakers or scrubbing grass stains, it’s one of the hardest-working fixtures in your home. But as Lauren Naor, Henley Design Showroom Manager, explains, practical doesn’t have to mean plain. “A good laundry sink should be both functional and stylish – it can work hard and still look beautiful,” she says.
Here’s what to think about when choosing the right one.
Size matters
If you’re going for a single bowl – which most people do – Lauren recommends aiming for a sink measuring around 500mm x 400mm and holding at least 40 litres.
“This size gives you the practicality you need without eating into precious benchtop space,” she says. “We all know how important bench space is in a laundry.”
Beyond stainless steel
Stainless steel is the classic choice – durable, easy to clean, and at home in almost any style – but it’s far from the only option.
Fragranite sinks are also growing in popularity. Available in moody black or crisp white, they blend effortlessly with a range of colour schemes.
Tapware that works as hard as you do
When it comes to tapware, Lauren is a big advocate for pull-out sink mixers.
“They’re perfect for rinsing every corner of the sink, filling buckets, or even bathing your pets – you can keep one hand on your furry friend and the other on the water,” she says.
High-profile taps are another smart choice, allowing you to fit larger items underneath without awkward manoeuvring. “Think about a flexible or pull-out spray function,” Lauren suggests.
What’s popular?
“Our most popular choice is still the traditional 45L stainless steel inset sink – it’s reliable, low-maintenance, and fuss-free,” Lauren says.
“That said, we’re seeing more modern square designs in both inset and undermount styles. They’re especially striking when paired with a beautiful benchtop.”
Finishing the look
Your sink is only part of the equation – the right benchtop can elevate the entire space. “Stone Ambassador has an incredible range of benchtop colours and patterns to suit every style and budget,” Lauren adds.
Whether you prefer sleek and modern or soft and organic, there’s an option to make your laundry a place you actually enjoy spending time in. As Lauren puts it: “If you’re going to be elbow-deep in soaking solution, you might as well love the space you’re in.”
