As we move into 2026, the trends shaping Australian homes are more personal, layered and expressive. What began as a move toward earthy palettes and natural textures in 2025, is now evolving into a richer and more confident design direction.

According to Breahna Harry, Interior Design Coordinator, 2026 is all about “dialling up warmth and individuality.”

“We are embracing comfort and authenticity. It’s about mixing natural tones, tactile textures and meaningful design choices that reflect who you are.”

Here are the top five design trends Breahna predicts will define the year ahead.

1. Colour with confidence

After years of minimalism, colour is returning to our interiors - in a calm and grounded way. Rich burgundies, muted jades, pistachio accents and powder blues are softening spaces, while warm beiges and creams keep everything cohesive.

“Colour is becoming less about contrast and more about comfort. It’s those subtle and earthy shades that give a room personality, without overpowering it. A pop of pistachio on a cushion or a soft jade kitchen appliance can completely lift a space.”

2. Texture you can feel

Design is also shifting from what you see to what you feel. Bouclé, linen and velvet (for winter) are back in full force - adding warmth and tactility to living spaces. Hard surfaces are also softening through matt finishes, raw travertines and sandy-toned stones.

According to Breahna, texture is the new luxury.

“We are layering different finishes to create depth and comfort. The goal is for every surface to invite touch - from a linen sofa to a cosy bedroom rug.”

3. Curves that comfort

Hard lines are giving way to organic, fluid forms. Arched doorways, curved benchtops and sculptural lighting are making homes feel softer and more natural.

“Curves make spaces feel more relaxed and human. Even a small detail, such as a rounded cabinet edge or a curved lamp, can completely change the mood of a room.” Breahna said.

4. Bringing nature in

Biophilic design remains one of the most powerful influences on home design, however, 2026 sees it evolve into something even more immersive and amplified. Stacker doors that open entire living spaces to the outdoors, kitchen window splashbacks that frame greenery and natural materials that mimic outdoor textures are all key elements.

Breahna says, “Nature has become the ultimate design inspiration. It’s about connecting with light, air and greenery in a way that restores calm. We are seeing this especially in kitchens – they are becoming more open, more tactile and more connected to the outdoors.”

5. Bespoke meets vintage

Perhaps the most exciting trend for 2026 is the rise of individuality. Mixing old with new, rustic with refined, and vintage finds with bespoke design details is creating homes with personality and depth.

“People are moving away from perfection and into expression. It’s about curating spaces that tell your story - whether that’s a family heirloom beside a sleek stone island or a farmhouse table in a modern setting.”

“Next year, design feels braver as it’s about creating spaces that feel lived in, layered and loved. We are celebrating the individuality that makes every family home unique.”
