Jeff Bugeja, Henley’s national design manager, recently shared expert insights on the rise of multi-generational living in a feature published by realestate.com.au.

The article highlighted the growing demand for home designs that support flexibility, privacy and long-term adaptability - areas where we continue to lead the industry.

As Australian households evolve, more families are embracing multi-generational living arrangements that bring grandparents, adult children and extended relatives under one roof.

According to Jeff, Henley’s approach to flexi layouts is designed to respond to these changing needs with thoughtful, future-proofed design.

“It’s spaces that can change as life changes – a study that becomes a bedroom, or a playroom that evolves into a home office,” he told realestate.com.au.

Our flexi layout philosophy ensures that families can tailor their home to the unique rhythms of daily life. Whether it’s incorporating an additional living zone, creating a semi-private retreat or adding an ensuite for extended family, the goal is always the same: design that supports comfort, connection and independence in equal measure.

“We also include extra living zones and options like ensuites or semi-private areas for extended family,” Jeff explained. “Separation of space is a key consideration.”

With multi-generational living on the rise across the country, more households are looking for homes that feel cohesive yet adaptable - a balance we have perfected through decades of product innovation.

“Families are looking for spaces that can adapt to their needs – whether that’s a quiet home office, a kids’ activity zone, prayer room, or a multipurpose room that can shift with the seasons of life,” Jeff said.

From strategically located bedrooms to flexible ground-floor suites and versatile communal spaces, our multi-generational options offer genuine design solutions for families at every stage.
